there are days when words are all I have

words sliding letter by letter from the
end of a pencil, turning blank white paper

into pieces of me,

pieces that can be packed away
and forgotten

until they’re unearthed in dusty
shoeboxes and yellowed notebooks

where someone will find me

when the words are all that’s left

This piece is definitely one of the best I've read from you yet. This really hits to the core of what I've been feeling when I listen to old 78 records and the ghost of nostalgia gets heavy. Very awesome.

Sometimes all you have is words and people. Words...Words have power. Whoever invented "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me" was lying... :hmm:
It's especially special discovering writing from long ago, and seeing how you've changed over time... :)

I just sent this to a friend. An incredible writer who's given up. If the words themselves don't inspire him the talent surely will.

I think before too long I am going to write my poem on this hemisphere so you can read it from space.....

wow...going back to work really does take it out of you ;P

I was trying to mirror your imagery of putting letters onto paper into a much grander image or reforming the northern hemisphere with the words I plan on putting out before I am done. But perhaps I missed  oops ;)

the tao (i am sure you will get tired of hearing that from me) says something to the effect that you should do your work, and just let go. that is the route to immortality.

And how much does the tao tell us to let go? There are days when I seem to be holding on by my fingernails...

let go of your work once it is done.
allow things to proceed on their natural course, acting only at the time the correct action arises by itself.
do not force the world into your pre-ordained segments and pigeon-holes.

those things arent easy to do for those of us living in the 21st century. but if you can achieve them, you will be a happier, more loving, more humane human.
