I want someone

      (to take care of me).

Don’t misunderstand.

I can pay my bills,
fill my car with gas.

I don’t need a man

      (to take out the trash).

I can make my own way.

But now and then
when I’m tired

     (I’m so tired)

it would be nice to
have someone

      (tell me what to do)

when I’m too weary
to figure it out

myself.

I quite like the sentiment. I think we all can identify with that too, at times. Someone to catch you when you need it.

Interesting take on the word regent. I never would have thought of it this way. I like the way you're using asides in parenthesis.

And boy...do I know just how you feel

At the end of the day nothing compares to the feeling of snuggling with that special someone. While we may be self sufficient and not "need" a man, it's certainly nice to have a good one in our lives. Many of us like to always feel in control, but there's something freeing about relinquishing it occasionally and just allowing yourself to be loved and cared for. Good one, Cindy =)

That's precisely it, yes. It's not a relinquishing of independence but of finding a moment of rest with someone you can trust.

I guess we all long for the carefree moments from childhood, with not a single obligation or responsibility... I think I would feel guilty about it after a while though, and wouldn't be able to help shouldering responsibility. Responsibility is psychological in a way - it becomes onerous when you see it as being onerous.

But hey, who am I kidding? I want something like that too.

Happy New Year Cindy

Hunh. I never thought of it that way. Either the 'use' of regent or the 'twist' on a significant other.

Well, I was thinking of how many people (once upon a time) genuinely wanted their king/queen to tell them what to do and thus remove all responsibility from their shoulders. I think relationships need that sometimes, too, as long as it's not one-sided. It would be nice for partners to take turns, you know?

I envy you the horses. I haven't ridden a horse in years and years, and I do love it. I'm glad you had such a good day.

It was good here, too. The kids and I have been taking turns with the XBox. We get a lot of visiting done between adventures. :)

Well, come to Iowa sometime and I'll take you riding. There's a great place not far from me with beautiful trails down by the river. Bring the kids. It wil be great.

Sounds like a great day with the kids. Playin' games and visiting. That's one of those days all three of you will look back on fondly someday.

That's so lovely of you to invite us. I'm not honestly sure that I've ever been to Iowa, which is funny considering my mom was born there and had family there for ages (Des Moines and Newton). My grandpa did drive us to the border once when we were visiting his mom in Missouri (she lived about fifty miles from the Iowa border). It seems like he drove us across the border, but I don't really remember...

The kids probably won't remember it as anything special. We do it all the time. What John will remember is my forcing him to stay awake (he didn't go to bed until 9 a.m. - about an hour before I got up. Not knowing this, I got him up at noon) in hopes that he'd get back on a semi-school sleeping schedule. :)
