Literature Text

Folding sheets for the king-sized
bed of which I’m the sole occupant
hardly seems worth the effort.
Downsizing would be more
sensible – the blankets and comforters
less bothersome to launder – more
room freed for bookshelves or
clean open spaces.

Yet I always choose to keep it,

hoping in the future
that I won't be here
alone.
Laundry day....

Cut much of the second stanza on Alec's advice. Thanks, Alec.

"second occupant" seemed business like to me. and your other poems have this wonderful turn to the amorous and steamy.

i thought of guest or unexpected guest or amorous visitor and a few others that were too on the head... i don't know. but that's why you're the master poet and i'm not.

still, this poem is so sweetly hopeful.
