I thought of you today
(the first time in a long time)
when I found an old
email I’d forgotten
I’d saved.

I read your
words, so friendly
and light, so eager
to win me,

and my heart broke
neatly in two

like an apple cut
cleanly down the
center that falls into
symmetrical
halves,

twin red pieces
that will never
fit properly
together

again.

Heart wrenching, yet beautiful. Excellent piece.
